Tien the Crane Fly

This is the story of the only roommate I ever likedThe bathroom at my parent’s house has terrible insulation. So when it gets cold, the edges of the window would freeze over with a thick layer of ice. This one particular time, the ice seemed to have claimed the life of a three legged crane fly. Whose legs were half frozen to the window and half torn off. But later that day as I was sitting on the toilet, I saw it flutter its wings for a bit. It was still alive! Resilient little fella. I got some warm water and ended up thawing the lil guy out and brought it to my room. It didn’t have much energy to move around at first. But the next day I saw it fluttering around my rooms in circles, bumping into the ceiling light. Tien was ok! That’s its name by the way. I decided to name it Tien after the Triclops from that one Journey to the West adaptation because the crane fly only had three legs. And Tien only had three limbs too after a certain incident. I looked up some crane fly facts on the internet and it appears they don’t actually eat as adults. They can feed on nectar but don’t technically need to. They mostly only eat during their larvae phase. So this unfortunately also means they have a short adult lifespan. A lot don’t die of old age either, instead they are swooped up by predators… which they have a lot of. But I’m glad that I was able to at least give Tien a few extra days to enjoy life in the comfort of a warm room with no random predators trying to eat it.
