Welcome to my About page!

Hi! My name is Alex. I love LEGO, cargo shorts, and Journey to the West. That’s all you need to know about me…

Ok but seriously, while that may be an over exaggeration, I have friends who would say that’s not an innacurate complete description of myself.

I’m an Asian American in my mid 20s currently living in Pennsylvania. I’m not really much of a writer but over the years I’ve realized I have too many thoughts and opinions but not enough outlets to express them. Unlike doing the normal thing of creating social media, I’ve decided to make my own website instead.

To give you an idea of what type of person I am, I would say a curious and creative type (and a great appreciation for humor and comedy). I love art and sciences, I’m a mechanical engineer by degree. I love tinkering and making stuff. But I’m also fascinated by knowledge and very much like to learn about new things.

I made this website to host some of the ideas and random thoughts I’ve had over the years, but also just to document random things. I might write about funny stories in my life or give a thesis on why the Watchmaker Analogy is a flawed concept. I also want to use this as a sort of portfolio of projects I’m working on.

FAQ

Why the Binder Clip Scorpion?

Well that’s a bit of a misnomer I suppose. Back in school I acquired a massive box of two prong metal paper fasteners. They were fun to play around with and I realized they were actually great for making little models since the prongs naturally connected with each other so well. So one night I made a little metal scorpion. I mean technically it’s a “Two Pronged Paper Fastener Scorpion” but that doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Binder Clip Scorpion sounded way cooler and could even be a band name. That just kind of stuck with me and I ended up using it as my website name.

What are your hobbies?

I’m a bit of a wanderer when it comes to hobbies. They do tend to change over time. But as a general overview I love going on walks and exploring empty places, collecting coins and stamps, video games (I quite enjoy the Legend of Zelda franchise), playing the guitar, and lastly, the very vague hobby of “creating things”. This means drawing, making Arduino projects, editing shitposts online, wood working, or even like making a website or something. I dunno. Just a thought.

What’s your stance on Schrödinger’s Cat?

Well quite personally I’m annoyed since oftentimes in the modern era, people use the Schrödinger’s Cat thought experiment as a very ill-informed example explaining the concept of superposition despite the fact that Schrödinger created the thought experiment to demonstrate the absurdity of superposition on a macro scale. The very purpose of the thought experiment is meant to ridicule and criticize the phenomenon and demonstrate how it couldn’t possibly work in real life. The idea being that the act of observing determines outcome, but people misinterpret what observing really means. Because by measuring, physicists actually mean “interaction”, in which the contents of the box are constantly being interacted with at all times. So the cat itself never is in a state of superposition, because the second the poison vile, or bomb, or whatever the deadly substance is goes off, the cat will be there to observe and end the superposition. And if not the cat, then every other particle inside the box, down to the very atoms the contraption is made out of.
